Volunteers do everything from helping the shelter staff care for the animals to serving on  the board of directors!  Whether you would like to work directly with animals or help out with special projects, there is room for you at DPVHS.

Animal Caregivers work to provide a clean, comfortable, and healthy environment for the shelter animals.  Animal caregivers begin at 8am daily.

Enrichment Specialists have experience working with animals in order to provide the care essential to maintaining emotional, mental, and physical health of each animal.  Enrichment positions are only available on weekday afternoons.

Pet Taxi Drivers transport animals to and from veterinary appointments.  Animals are usually dropped off at the vet in the morning and picked up in the afternoon.

Closing Helpers assist the shelter staff in tending to each animal’s needs before closing the shelter for the day.  They also help with dishes, laundry, and trash removal.  Closing Helpers arrive one hour before closing.

Foster Parents provide temporary haven for animals too young, too sick/injured, or those animals with special needs.

The mission of the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society is to work with our community to strengthen the bond between animals and people, enhancing the quality of their lives through compassionate sheltering, responsible adoptions, education, and community outreach.

Why should I volunteer?

  • Help the Dakin Animal Shelter achieve its mission of placing homeless animals into lifetime homes.

  • Meet new people and learn new skills.

  • Know that you are making a difference in the lives of hundreds of needy animals!
